Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has awarded ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C) a three-year frame contract for the provision of state-of-the-art maximum demand meters for measuring and monitoring electricity use by bulk consumers.
Bulk consumers comprise mainly large commercial and industrial businesses. The demand meters P&C has been contracted to supply are those produced by its China-based metering technology partners.
Ekurhuleni Municipality placed its first order with P&C shortly after the award of the frame main contract early last year. The order, for the supply of 1150 three-phase current transformer- and/or voltage transformer-operated maximum demand meters in the voltage range of 58 V to 415 V, was supplied on schedule in October last year.

Greater Tzaneen Municipality in Limpopo Province has become the first local authority in South Africa to adopt the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system offered by ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C), one of the country’s leading metering systems suppliers.
After the successful completion of a three-month pilot project, which ran from May to July this year, the municipality has followed up with an order for a large-scale project involving 250 pre-paid meters, plus the accompanying control and monitoring systems.
Hexing appoints ACTOM P&C sole RSA distributor
Leading international metering systems supplier Hexing Electrical Co Ltd of China, which has provided metering solutions via ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C) to several organisations and companies in Southern Africa during the past three years, has formally appointed ACTOM as its sole distributor for South Africa and a number of other countries in the region.
The three-year distributorship agreement, which became effective at the beginning of May 2011, is applicable to Hexing’s pre-paid meters and smart metering systems, which are rated among the most advanced and competitively priced in the world.
Wide Area Monitoring System for Eskom
ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C), leading suppliers of protection, control and metering equipment, has won a ground-breaking R31-million contract to design, supply and install state-of-the-art Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) equipment for Eskom.
The WAMS will enable Eskom to monitor local and national disturbances in its transmission network. Disturbances may often lead to widespread system outages. WAMS also provides advance warning of possible system deterioration so that corrective action can be taken to avert a crisis situation from arising.
Southern African Power Pool
ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C) has won a prestigious R13,7-million turnkey contract from the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) to provide an Energy Management System (EMS) to monitor the state of transmission lines (interconnectors) between the 12 SAPP member countries.
The contract was awarded in early-July this year and is scheduled for completion at the end of June 2011.
Medupi and Kusile Contracts
ACTOM company scores double win with protection and control contracts for both Medupi and Kusile
Alstom Power, the main contractors for the turbines for both of Eskom’s new coal-fired power stations, Medupi and Kusile, has followed up the award of the turnkey protection and control contract for Medupi to local company ACTOM Protection & Control (P&C) last year, by awarding the identical contract for Kusile to the company.
The new R16-million contract, awarded in February this year, is due for completion in 2014, with the first delivery scheduled for October this year.

Tshwane Municipality awards R50m ‘smart’ prepayment meters contract
