ACTOM Electrical Products completes specialised turnkey lighting project at Vodacom’s Data Centre
ACTOM Electrical Products, the ACTOM group’s distribution arm which incorporates a specialised lighting business unit, recently completed a turnkey lighting project for South Africa’s leading cellular network Vodacom for its Data Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, involving designing and providing energy-efficient lighting systems for the interior illumination of the building.
Bathopele Mine Expansion 5
Leading mining ventilation fans designers, manufacturers and suppliers ACTOM Mechanical Equipment has completed two contracts, totalling over R50-million in value, for extension of the main ventilation fan system at Anglo American Platinum’s Bathopele Mine near Rustenburg in North West Province.
The contracts, awarded by Anglo American Platinum’s project management and design consultants Read, Swatman & Voigt (RSV), were for the mine’s Expansion Phase 5 being developed to gain access to additional ore reserves, aimed at increasing output to 300 KTPM by 2014.
Acquisition: Genlux Lighting
South Africa’s top electro-mechanical engineering group ACTOM has acquired Genlux Lighting, leading designers and manufacturers of outdoor and industrial luminaires.
Genlux, which specialises in outdoor luminaires for floodlighting, roadways and commercial properties and luminaires for industrial applications, will form part of ACTOM Electrical Products, the ACTOM group’s distribution arm, which operates a network of branches around South Africa and in Namibia.
Underground mining haulage power system launch
ACTOM Electrical Products, one of South Africa’s top distributors of electrical equipment , has introduced a modernised underground haulage power system that is “better in every way” than its predecessor, says Russel Ramsden, the company’s National Product Manager, Power Products.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality
ACTOM Electrical Products, the ACTOM group’s electrical equipment wholesaler, landed its biggest ever order for lamps recently when Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Metropolitan Municipality awarded it a contract to supply 400 000 spiral compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s) for free distribution to householders in the municipality.
Mines welcome new cable clamps & wedges
A new system of clamps and wedges developed and produced by leading electrical equipment suppliers ACTOM Electrical Products for securing electricity cables deployed in underground mines is proving highly successful.
“All the mines that have adopted the new system since we introduced it into the market confirm that it is a big advance over the system it replaced, which comprised cast-iron cable clamps and wedges,” commented Russel Ramsden, Product Manager, Cables & Accessories, at ACTOM Electrical Products.

ACTOM Electrical Products supplies top quality luminaires for Ford Motor Company plant
Ford Motor Company South Africa (FMCSA) has selected luminaires of the highest quality for lighting of its Stuandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth.
A total of 504 Versabeam 400 watt metal halide high-bay luminaires, manufactured by leading international lighting specialists GE Lighting of Europe and supplied locally by ACTOM Electrical Products, have been installed in the refurbished and new sections of the Engine Plant – in line with the practice of Ford Motor Company in the United States, the local company’s principal, which uses this product exclusively in its US factories because of its superior characteristics over all other alternative fittings on offer.
